Hot Momma Wanna Be
So I have been thinking about how unfit I am and that being an older mom (meaning that I was older when I started to have my kids) I know that I need to make a change in my life if I want to be around to see my Grandchildren. Some of my friends from a board I am on that I have gotten to know over the past 3 years have been talking about running lately. They have inspired me to try to do more to get fit. One of the mom's mentioned a program called Couch to 5K and I thought that sounded like a good program.
So starting now, this blog is going to be about my journey to go from obese to fit. I don't know how long it is going to take, I am not looking for a quick fix, I want to do this for the long run and keep up with it. I am sure there are going to be times when I slip up, but I am creating this blog to keep me accountable. And for all of my followers to keep me accountable too. So I definitely encourage positive feedback!

Doing better
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! I enjoyed spending time with my family. I actually didn't do too bad with food that day, I was so busy helping Samantha with her food that I didn't really eat too much myself. I still enjoyed a piece pumpkin pie though. I've gotten myself back on track now. A friend of mine told me about Weight Watchers new points program, now they count Fat, Carbs, Fiber, and Protein instead of Fat, Calories, and Fiber. They also changed it so that fruit is a free food, I have decided to check out the program and have signed up for a 7 day free trial. I think I am going to really like that program, I needed something better than the app I was using to keep track of food. I weighed myself yesterday and I finally saw a loss! I am down 6 lbs, woo hoo! I am off to Costco now to get some more healthy food.

Been a few days
I figured I better get myself over here and make a post! It's been a few days since my last post, but up until yesterday I was doing great still, just had been so busy with work and the kids and other distractions. My motivation really went downhill the last couple of days. Not sure if it is due to "that time of the month" or that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Probably a combination of the two. Yesterday I really wanted to order a pizza, but I resisted and had my Lean Cuisine pizza instead. I did end up eating one fun size Baby Ruth, but really that isn't too bad considering it was the first piece of candy I have had in over a week. I was a bit discouraged when I weighed myself on Sat and found I weighed the same then as I did when I started, but I suppose that has to do with my period, I would like to think it would go down this week, but it probably won't since it's Thanksgiving week. I am sure I will get back on track and start seeing some results next week. On a positive note, I could feel a difference in how my pants were fitting, so something must be working. I'll get back to posting my daily tracking next week.

Great work outs to end a great day
I did great again today with food, I was actually under in calories, and I wasn't hungry at all. I switched to whole wheat bread, and had two pieces of toast with a little spreadable butter, for lunch I had a turkey sandwich, cucumbers and raspberries. For dinner I had a Lean Cuisine frozen pizza. I drake 6 glasses of water today. And for a snack I made this recipe, WW Key Lime Pie, except I made it without the crust, and I used strawberry flavors instead of lime.
A couple days ago I started listening to a hypnosis app on my droid, Lose Weight - Andrew Johnson, I think it is helping me to make better decisions, plus it is really relaxing and it helps me sleep good.
I didn't get outside for a walk tonight because by the time Samantha woke up from her nap, it was already getting dark. But once I got the girls to bed, I found some workout videos through On Demand on my cable. I did two workouts, I had to modify them a bit one because I am not in that great of shape and also because when I was bouncing around it was shaking the floor and was too noisy and I didn't want to wake the girls.
Some friends of mine are doing a Biggest Loser Challenge and they were nice enough to let me join them even though they had already started a couple weeks ago, that really is helping to motivate me to do better for my team. I know if it wasn't for that challenge I would have skipped exercise today, but I really wanted to get the points.

Good day yesterday
I had a really good day, worked for 12 hours, so I wasn't able to get in much exercise, but I made much better food choices. I started out with some Quaker Squares cereal and some yogurt, had a great salad for lunch. I recreated the salad that I bought at Cub on Thursday last week. For dinner I forgot my frozen meal that I was going to have, so I just finished my cereal. I had some cucumbers and other fruit and some almonds throughout the day. I also drank 8 glasses of water. I had a diet pepsi for lunch and I only drank half of it when I switched to water. I did still have my cup of coffee in the morning, but like most mornings I only drank half of that too.
It feels good to be making a positive change in my life! I did end up getting that double jogging stroller on Sunday, but now the weather has decided to be more like winter, so not sure if I will be taking the girls out for a walk today or not. We'll just have to see what it is like out there after Samantha gets up from her nap.
I just made this dessert recipe to have for a snack, WW Key Lime Pie, I used strawberry jello and yogurt instead of lime though because I am not a huge fan of Key Lime pie, I also skipped the crust this time and put it in 4 separate bowls, because I just want it as a snack. I have made the recipe once before and it is really good, it just has to set for 2 hours, so I can't wait.
Yesterday's Stats:
No logged exercise

Decision
At first I had the idea that I would start to exercise and still eat what ever I wanted, but I have come to the conclusion that doing that isn't going to work. I have to eat right too if I am really going to do this. So starting tomorrow (since I am getting my groceries today) I will try much harder to stick to my food plan. I use Coborns Delivers, so last night I placed my order so I have much better food choices around the house. We are going to go to Costco today, so I'll pick up a few more things there too.
I've been looking into double jogging strollers on Craigs List, I found one for $60 that normally goes for between $300-400. It has reclining seats that recline independent from each other which is important to me since Sophie is so young she'll need to recline. I also like that there is a divider between the two seats so that Samantha doesn't try to pull on Sophie. It also has a rain/snow cover, so if it starts to rain a bit like my last walk I won't have to turn around and go right home. Hopefully I'll be able to check it out today.
I think I might try to do some mall walking with the girls this winter, I just think it's going to be too cold to be out with the two little ones.

Day 5
Yesterday was a pretty good day considering I worked over 14 hours. I made much better food choices, someone brought a whole bowl of Halloween candy into work, and a managed to just eat one little fun size bar. Instead of driving, I walked to the store to get my lunch (it may have only been 5 min. round trip, but it was something.) I choose a salad with walnuts, chicken, feta cheese, and craisins with a raspberry vinaigrette and of course lettuce greens. It was really good!

Day 4
I started out my day really good this morning, I was able to get half price tickets to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream coat. It's one of the musicals that is on my "Bucket List", along with Wicked and Riverdance. Someday I will get to see the other two. Food really got the better of me again today, I just haven't gotten motivated yet to really work on food, I need to go grocery shopping so I have some better choices in the house. Usually when I start a weight loss plan, I start with diet and don't feel motivated to exercise, right now it is the other way around, I feel motivated to exercise but not diet.
This is a hard time of year for me diet wise, with all the special holiday food it is hard to resist. I will just plan to keep it in moderation, I don't want to give it all up completely, I find when I try to deprive myself that I end up eating more than I would have in the first place. One of my downfalls is anything pumpkin flavored, and Starbucks has the best Pumpkin Spice Latte, and who can resist that festive red cup! I really need to get some diet pop in the house too, been drinking too much coke.
I got out for my walk again today, but it had to be cut short since it started to rain. It wouldn't have bothered me, but I had the girls with and didn't want them to get sick from getting wet.

Distance: 1.18 Miles

Day 3
Took a nice walk again this afternoon with Samantha and Sophie. What a beautiful day, I can't believe I was out in a sweatshirt with no coat in November! I estimated my walk to be 1.8 miles today, my GPS wasn't working very good, said I had gone 6 miles when I know for sure I didn't go that far!
While I was out on my walk a met a local celebrity, Marjorie Johnson, she is the sweetest little lady, I have seen her before on Twin Cities Live and on the news. She's a blue ribbon winner for her baked goods at the State Fair.
Today's stats:
Distance: 1.8 Miles
Calories Burned: 193
Time: 34 Min.

Did a little better with eating than the other day, but still not on target.

Sharing my weight
I decided that I am going to share my weight. I figure it is just a # and I am what I am, doesn't really matter what the scale says I am, everyone can see that I am over weight, so why hide the #. I just stepped on the scale, of course that was at 12:00pm after eating lunch. I weigh 210 lbs according to my cheap scale. Wow, I think that is a record for me, well maybe with the exception of when I was pregnant. Even though I know it is a high number, I don't feel so bad about it like I would think I would. Maybe when you decide to make a change in your life it makes it easier to accept it?
I just stepped outside to bring the dog out, and wow I can't believe how nice it is out there again today. I sure did pick the right time to start an outdoor exercise routine! I'll be heading out for my walk/jog as soon as Samantha wakes up from her nap!

Day 2
I went to Target last night to get some essentials for my walking/jogging, I am planning to do a lot of it outside, and it's going to be getting cold soon (we sure have been lucky again the last couple days though.) I got a pair of tennis shoes, yoga pants, a hoodie, a pair of running gloves, and a head band to keep my ears warm. I have an app on my Droid to keep track of my distance walked, what I eat, calories burned, etc. It's called Cardio Trainer. There is a pro version of the app that I think I am going to get that will give me more direction during the workout. It will also give me a feature to help me lose weight by telling me how much to eat and how much to workout based on my goal.
I just need to get some wool socks to keep my feet warm and I'll have to find a t-shirt to wear under the hoodie in case I do end up getting too warm.
I didn't get a chance to do much exercise today, I worked my long day today, but tomorrow I have it planned to take the girls out for a walk in the afternoon. I am excited to wear my new clothes and shoes!
I drank more water today, I have been really slacking on drinking water. I only brought one can of pop to work, and had that with my lunch and the rest of the day I sipped on water. I did have one cup of coffee though to start my day.
I did let the Halloween candy get the best of me today. Those little candy bars sure do have a big voice when it comes to calling my name! Oh well, at least I am making a positive change in my life with exercise, the other parts will come too. And I am sure the more I do this the more I will want to make better choices for eating so I don't undo the good I do.
